On August 13th, the Arab American Learning Center hosted a back to school celebration for refugee students and their families. This event was made possible by 10 different churches who partnered with the Arab American Learning Center to provide backpacks and school supplies for 425 refugee students. For many of these students, it is their first year attending school in the US.
Churches donated the backpacks and school supplies for the students. A mission team from Hawaii came to preach the Good News and prepared 325 of these backpacks. Children who attended a local VBS program also donated 51 backpacks. All together, the Arab American Learning Center was able to distribute 425 backpacks with New Testaments in them. Each backpack was prayed over.
The event was held at Arcade Church in Arden Arcade, a community in Sacramento that sees a great number of refugee relocations. Representatives from the San Juan School District were present to join in the celebration.
Thank You Arab American Learning Center for serving our refugee neighbors and helping the church do so too!
